Despoina Kanidou, mother of Giorgos Papazoglou, testified at the trial regarding the Tempi incident that the family arrived by car at Evangelismos around 2, while the fire was still burning. She mentioned that her son's funeral took place on March 7 and that the restoration work and backfilling had been completed the day before. Kanidou said that her son's body was one of the three most dismembered and was delivered in two bags: one contained his legs and the other his heart and organs. She stated that the metallic items he had with him and his mobile phone, which she said was functioning, were not found and claimed that the items were thrown away with the soil during the restoration work. She also claimed that there were government orders to remove the soil and that the area needed to be cleared in anticipation of elections. She stated that important evidence was lost with the backfilling. She also referred to the audio of her call to 112, where she heard Frantzeska saying that she had no oxygen, and described how she was preoccupied with what the child had gone through in the last hours of his life. Regarding the absence of defendants from the courtroom, Kanidou mentioned that stationmasters and representatives of ERGOSE were missing and requested that their personal presence be ordered. She added that the defendants continued to work in the same positions. Kanidou argued that if the consortium had been declared bankrupt, contract 717 would have been completed, and she would not have lost her child. She said that extensions and additional funds were given while workers repeatedly sent legal warnings about the possibility of an accident. She stated that the problems were known to the ministry, the RAS, and OSE, and that the family had believed Mr. Karamanlis's assurances about safety. Finally, she said that in 2023, the two trains moved for 12 minutes on a collision course without any safety system working and argued that the functioning of even one system would have prevented the collision. She attributed the deaths to corruption, collusion, nepotism, and impunity. #Τέμπη #δίκη #ασφάλεια (translated)
