Entre as justificativas apresentadas pelo consórcio estão as condições do gramado, o calendário de jogos e até os efeitos do fenômeno El Niño. No ofício, Dani Monteiro questionou os argumentos. “O Maracanã é um equipamento público e não pode ser administrado como se tivesse dono, estamos falando de uma concessão. É preciso explicar por que o gramado serve para uma partida da NFL, para grandes eventos e para diferentes programações, mas, quando chega a vez do Vasco enquanto mandante, surgem todos os tipos de justificativa para impedir o uso do estádio”, afirmou.
