Nigeria – how pro-Russian influence networks sell military rule as the answer When Nigerians took to the streets in August 2024 to protest soaring living costs and frustration with government, some demonstrations acquired an unexpected symbol: the Russian flag. In Kano, Kaduna and other northern cities, protesters were filmed carrying Russian colours and calling for Moscow’s intervention. Some demanded a military takeover. What initially looked like an unusual expression of anger has since become part of a much larger picture. A September 2026 assessment by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies describes Nigeria as a major target of overlapping foreign information operations, with Russia the most active external actor in its information space. The report does not identify a single centrally controlled campaign. Instead, it maps an ecosystem in which genuine dissatisfaction over insecurity, corruption and living standards is repeatedly redirected towards a broader proposition: democratic government has failed, while the military-led regimes of the Sahel offer a more effective alternative. Turning a real protest into a pro-Russian message The clearest example emerged during the 2024 #EndBadGovernance protests. Nigerian investigative reporting found that a Kano-based TikTok influencer with more than 100,000 followers had been paid through a Telegram channel associated with African Initiative, a Moscow-based media operation linked by researchers to Russian influence activity in Africa. The influencer said the channel supplied photographs, videos and talking points for redistribution on TikTok and Instagram. Among the messages provided were phrases such as “Putin please come and save Nigeria” and “The army is the answer for Nigeria”. Influencers were encouraged to use Hausa-language hashtags including #Zangazanga – “protest” – alongside references to Putin and Russia. Investigators identified 38 accounts circulating similar pro-Russian and pro-military narratives during the demonstrations. Russian flags subsequently appeared among protesters in several northern cities. This does not mean the protests themselves were created by Russia. They were driven by genuine economic and political grievances, and Nigerian protesters gave different reasons for carrying Russian flags. The important feature of the influence activity was precisely that it did not need to manufacture the original anger. It could attach a geopolitical message to an existing domestic crisis. From frustration to the idea of military government The narrative fits a wider pattern seen across West Africa. Russia has developed close relations with the military governments of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, while pro-Russian media ecosystems routinely portray those states as examples of sovereignty, stability and resistance to Western influence. Nigeria, by contrast, has remained under constitutional civilian government since 1999. Africa Center researchers say information networks targeting Nigerians increasingly contrast these two models. Recurring messages depict elections as wasteful or predetermined, civilian institutions as incapable of protecting citizens and military governments as more decisive on security and development. Some content portrays the Sahelian juntas as delivering better roads, lower prices and stronger security even where available evidence points to continuing or worsening instability. Language is central to the strategy. Hausa is spoken across northern Nigeria and neighbouring Niger, allowing political narratives to travel across borders that are far less important online than they are on maps. HumAngle documented efforts involving Nigerien state-linked actors to cultivate Hausa-speaking journalists and distribute material favourable to Niger’s junta and hostile to France and Western influence. The Russian and Sahelian-junta information ecosystems are not identical, but their narratives frequently reinforce one another. Fake journalists inside real Nigerian media The campaign environment extends beyond social media. A 2026 investigation by Graphika and Code for Africa identified 44 ghost reporters and fake experts whose identities were used to place Russia-aligned narratives in African media. Thirty-eight were assessed with high confidence to be fabricated. Their articles or quotations appeared across 138 websites and were amplified by at least 113 Facebook accounts and Pages. Nigeria was one of the most heavily targeted countries. According to the Africa Center’s analysis of the research, Daily Post Nigeria carried 39 articles involving 14 identified ghost authors. Once published by a genuine Nigerian outlet, such material could then be cited by other websites, social-media accounts or even Russian official channels as though it had originated independently in Africa. This is information laundering rather than simple propaganda: the most valuable asset being borrowed is the credibility of the local newsroom. Generative AI added another layer. OpenAI and Meta separately disrupted a Russia-origin network that produced Africa-focused political content and operated Facebook Pages posing as local media organisations. One fabricated commentator, “Dr Manuel Godsin”, was presented as a European-trained geopolitical expert although investigators found no evidence supporting his academic biography. ChatGPT had been used to generate articles under the persona’s name, while Meta removed 37 Facebook accounts and 29 Pages connected to the broader network. Different networks, similar strategic direction It would be misleading to merge all these activities into a single Russian command structure. The African Initiative-linked influencer campaign, the ghost-reporter network and the AI-enabled operation disrupted by OpenAI and Meta were uncovered separately and used different infrastructure. Public evidence does not demonstrate that every actor reported to the same organisation. What connects them is a recurring set of themes and methods: portraying Western partnerships as exploitative, presenting Russia as an alternative security partner, amplifying failures of civilian government, and giving military-led rule greater legitimacy. Investigative reporting on leaked Russian documents has meanwhile described a much wider influence apparatus operating across Africa, involving political consultants, paid journalists, influencers and locally tailored campaigns intended to reduce Western influence and expand Moscow’s position. The underlying technique is less about inventing dissatisfaction than redirecting it. Nigeria faces real security threats, economic pressure and public frustration. Influence operators do not need to persuade Nigerians that those problems exist. They need only influence the explanation for why they exist – and which political model appears to offer the answer. That is what makes the Nigerian case significant. The most effective propaganda does not necessarily introduce a completely false reality. It takes a real crisis and changes where the audience is encouraged to look for the solution. Mitico Magazine - The Teatro Edicola of San Severo: A Model of Cultural Revolution for Stanford University as Well Source: https://www.miticomagazine.com/territorio-e-sociale/teatro-edicola-di-san-severo-un-modello-di-rivoluzione-culturale-anche-per-la-stanford-university/ The Teatro Edicola in Via Tondi In San Severo, a singular metamorphosis has taken place: a newsstand abandoned for at least six years has found a new function and a new identity, transforming into one of the smallest and most unusual theatre stages in the world. An experiment born in the heart of the town which, in just a few months, has moved beyond local boundaries, attracting attention even overseas. It is called Teatro Edicola and it is a project conceived by the company Foyer '97, artistically directed by Francesco Gravino, which has brought the old newsstand in Via Tondi back to life through a formula that is both essential and surprising. Foyer '97 Foyer '97 APS was established as a formally constituted association active in the cultural sector in San Severo in 1997, born from the vocation of a group of actors, directors and theatre enthusiasts, with the aim of building a "living" and accessible theatre in the town. Over the years the company has developed a repertoire that includes texts from the classical tradition, contemporary dramaturgy, comedy and experimental projects, not limiting itself to the mere production of theatre shows, but also organising theatre courses and workshops and educational and cultural projects characterised by a strong inclusive ethos, particularly in schools. Foyer '97 does not always have a fixed artistic ensemble, but works with different performers and collaborators depending on the project; the only indispensable presence is that of Francesco Guido Gravino himself, actor, director and artistic director of the theatre company. The distinctive feature of Foyer '97 is certainly the value of social and cultural promotion attributed to theatre, the extremely close relationship with the audience and the search for a type of theatre outside conventional spaces, with cemeteries, trains, bell towers, and now a newsstand, as its backdrop. Six spectators, a few minutes and a minimal distance between stage and audience The project was launched on 27 March 2026, on the occasion of World Theatre Day, offering a theatrical experience built around a radical reduction of the conventional spaces and times of performance. The idea was born not only from the search for unconventional spaces, but also from "Edicola Fiore", the morning press review with a strongly ironic tone presented by Rosario Fiorello and Stefano Meloccaro, which was broadcast first only on Fiorello's social channels between 2011 and 2014, and then also on radio and television between 2016 and 2018. The review took its name from the diminutive of its founder, Fiore, and from the newsstand of a friend of Fiorello's in Via Flaminia Nuova in Rome, where the showman would meet early in the morning with a group of friends to read the newspapers. The San Severo newsstand was granted free of charge by its owner Pino Frau to the theatre group which, after obtaining temporary authorisation and institutional support from the Municipality of San Severo, refurbished it within two weeks at a cost of less than €3,000. Just six seats, a total surface area of 4 sq m, of which only 2 are for the stage area, less than a metre between actors and audience, a curtain, a lectern, two lights, performances lasting between 5 and 15 minutes, audience rotation every quarter of an hour: apparently minimal elements that end up subverting the usual relationship between stage and auditorium. Spectators, in fact, find themselves immersed in the stage action, in such proximity to the actors that every gesture, expression and word becomes immediately perceptible. In this way, theatre abandons its traditional spaces and insinuates itself into the everyday life of the street, becoming an intimate, concentrated and almost participatory experience. During the inaugural period admission was free with a subsequent voluntary donation from spectators; in the event of a more stable and longer-term concession, which could lead to seasonal theatre performances, the proposed ticket price would be €5. Audiences reward the experiment Foyer '97's gamble met with public interest right from the start: over 60 people attended the shows in a single afternoon, while the three days that inaugurated the season sold out. From a singular local experiment, the Teatro Edicola thus began to arouse curiosity even outside the province of Foggia, gradually transforming into a case of cultural and social interest, until it reached the American continent. From the province of Foggia to the "Stanford Social Innovation Review" The San Severo experience has now come under the international spotlight: in September 2026, the Stanford Social Innovation Review, an international journal and platform dedicated to social innovation published by the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society at Stanford University in California, published on its website and in the Fall 2026 print edition the reportage "The Six-Seat Revolution", written by Dr Luciano Magaldi Sardella, independent journalist and researcher affiliated with the European Open University, and editorially supervised by deputy editor David V. Johnson. In the article, it is argued that the Teatro Edicola attracted attention overseas because the project concentrates cultural innovation, urban regeneration and proximity theatre into just a few square metres: starting from a real urban problem, it recovers an abandoned place with a modest investment, brings performance directly into public space and experiments with a much closer relationship between actors and spectators. From the point of view of theatrical representation, it also highlights how the format, based on micro-stories of five to twelve minutes, taken from great classics such as Goldoni, Chekhov, Ibsen, Euripides and Benni, and on audience rotation every fifteen minutes, transforms the physical limitations of the space into a precise dramaturgical choice, proving to be extremely innovative. All of this makes it possible to address some of the main critical issues in the sector: falling audience numbers, an exclusively elderly audience, reduced resources and distance from traditional cultural venues. The journal also highlights, however, the potential problems: economic sustainability, the need for stable institutional support and the difficulty of replicating the model, which is closely linked to the community and territory of San Severo. A model looking beyond San Severo Despite the difficulties, initial requests for information have already arrived from Lucca and Rome, where there is curiosity about the possibility of getting to know the model more closely and the steps needed to replicate it. The replicability formula, in fact, does not seem to require particularly costly infrastructure: an unused space, a targeted intervention, a cultural idea, in-depth knowledge of the surrounding area and a willingness to return that place to the community can be enough to trigger a new urban function. It is precisely in the disproportion between the modesty of the resources employed and the resonance generated by the initiative that perhaps the most original feature of the Teatro Edicola lies, certainly unique of its kind; there are, however, other examples in Italy of newsstands reused for other purposes: "Edicola 518", a twentieth-century kiosk abandoned in the centre of Perugia, now dedicated to independent publishing, art and cultural production; and in Rome itself, the abandoned newsstand in Piazza Testaccio used temporarily as a stage for a show by Fabio Morgan and the Erno newsstand in the Prati district, which almost every month offers a calendar of events, exhibitions, pop-ups and collaborations with artists and creative enterprises. Small revolutions, therefore, that tell stories of the reappropriation of urban spaces, of creativity and social innovation. And which, it is hoped, will take root in order to look ever further afield.

Mali – a war where some of the people fighting do not exist In Mali's war, an apparently simple question is becoming increasingly difficult to answer: who exactly is speaking to us? A real person? A rebel organisation? A Russian influence operation? A supporter of the military junta? Or somebody who has never existed at all? In September 2026, the Dakar-based Timbuktu Institute published Des algorithmes en guerre, a report examining the use of generative artificial intelligence by actors involved in the Malian conflict. Its researchers describe the country as a potential laboratory for AI-assisted information warfare. Separatist networks are deploying synthetic fighters on TikTok. Jihadist propagandists are experimenting with AI-generated imagery. Pro-government accounts are producing large quantities of content celebrating the Malian armed forces. Russia, meanwhile, operates the most developed influence infrastructure of all: pseudo-media outlets, inauthentic accounts, AI-generated text, images and video, and systems designed to artificially amplify their visibility. Artificial intelligence did not create Mali's conflict. The war has been under way since 2012, and its participants have always fought with propaganda as well as weapons. What AI has changed is the economics of that struggle. A new “witness”, commentator, fighter, poster or video can now be produced in minutes. For audiences watching from a phone, distinguishing between genuine documentation, propaganda and material created entirely by an algorithm is becoming progressively harder. Azzghim – the fighter who cannot be killed or interrogated The most striking case documented by the Timbuktu Institute involves accounts associated with supporters of the Azawad Liberation Front, or FLA, a Tuareg separatist movement fighting the authorities in Bamako. A figure called “Azzghim” appeared on TikTok. He looks like a Tuareg fighter and regularly features in videos attacking Mali's government and Russia's Africa Corps, commenting on the conflict and promoting the cause of Azawad. There is one problem: Azzghim does not exist. Analysis of the videos identified anomalies characteristic of generative AI, including unnatural body movements, visual inconsistencies, irregular colouring and problems with audio synchronisation. According to the Timbuktu Institute, Azzghim is a synthetic character being used as the digital face of a political narrative. The propaganda advantages are considerable. An organisation no longer needs to expose a real spokesman. A synthetic personality can be designed to look exactly as its creators require, speak the appropriate language and appeal to a particular audience. Different characters could potentially be created for younger viewers, traditional communities or different ethnic and social groups. There is another advantage: a synthetic spokesman cannot be arrested, identified or interrogated. Researchers also identified accounts amplifying the material. At the time of the study, TikTok account @tawri.n.azawad had around 207,000 followers and was almost entirely devoted to publishing or repackaging content involving Azzghim. Another account, @asnan831, used a similar synthetic teenage character. An important distinction is necessary. Researchers describe these profiles as belonging to supporters or individuals associated with the FLA. The available evidence does not establish that every account is part of an operation centrally directed by the Front's leadership. The information effect, however, remains significant: a digital community can be constructed around the Azawad cause in which some of the apparent participants may not be real people at all. The jihadists are learning too The picture is different for Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin, or JNIM, the al-Qaeda-affiliated coalition that has become one of the most powerful armed groups in the Sahel. Its confirmed use of generative AI remains considerably less sophisticated. In June 2026, JNIM's Az-Zallaqa media apparatus published AI-generated posters promoting material about previous attacks. The images showed fighters in combat but contained familiar generative artefacts: buildings and vegetation merging unnaturally, blurred details and unnaturally smooth surfaces. More important than JNIM's current capabilities is what AI could add to an already sophisticated propaganda apparatus. The organisation already tailors communications to different audiences. UN reporting has documented its use of media channels for broader propaganda while other outlets increasingly distribute material in local languages, including Bambara. Generative AI could dramatically reduce the cost of this strategy, translating material into Fulfulde, Hausa, Zarma or Tamasheq, generating synthetic dubbing and producing multiple versions of the same message. The Timbuktu Institute also considers the future possibility of AI chatbots being used to personalise recruitment. That should not be presented as a capability JNIM has already demonstrated. At present, it is a risk scenario rather than a confirmed operation. Russia has the most sophisticated machine At the other end of the spectrum lies Russia's influence ecosystem. Here, AI is not an isolated experiment but another component of an infrastructure previously developed by Wagner-linked networks, Russian media operations and influence organisations operating across Africa. After Wagner's withdrawal from Mali in 2025, its military role was taken over by the Russian state-controlled Africa Corps. The information infrastructure evolved alongside it. Of particular importance is African Initiative, which presents itself as a news agency but has been identified by France's VIGINUM, the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the European External Action Service as an important component of Russia's newer influence architecture in Africa. One of the most interesting elements of this ecosystem is a network researchers call AI-Freak. The operation uses generative AI to produce text, images and videos, places them on fake or apparently independent news websites and distributes them through inauthentic accounts. This is supplemented by so-called Black Hat SEO – techniques intended to artificially increase the visibility of content in search engines. Elements of this infrastructure have previously been identified by Meta and OpenAI. In 2024, OpenAI disrupted Russian accounts using ChatGPT to generate articles and comments in English, French and Russian. Some of the French-language content targeted audiences in West Africa. In a later iteration of the operation, AI models were also used to draft scripts for short videos praising the Russian Africa Corps, translate them into French and generate descriptions optimised for social media. This illustrates an important difference between the Russian approach and Azzghim. The separatist ecosystem uses AI primarily to manufacture convincing digital personalities. The Russian model increasingly resembles an industrial production line: text, image, video, pseudo-news website, distribution account, search optimisation and additional channels amplifying the narrative. The objective is not merely to convince someone of a single claim. It is to occupy as much of the information environment as possible with narratives advantageous to Moscow: Russia as an effective security partner, the West as a neo-colonial aggressor, France as a source of instability and Russian forces as defenders of African sovereignty. Yet VIGINUM also warns against equating technological sophistication with actual impact. Some Russian influence channels still attract relatively small audiences. A sophisticated operation is not automatically a successful one. The junta is building its own digital reality Mali's military authorities operate within the same contested information environment. Since breaking with France and moving closer to Moscow, Bamako has increasingly restricted independent media space while promoting a narrative built around restored sovereignty, military success and the benefits of its Russian partnership. The Timbuktu Institute highlights the TikTok account @6tm_officiel. At the time of the study, it had more than 436,000 followers and published substantial amounts of AI-generated material presenting Mali's armed forces, the FAMa, and the Africa Corps in a favourable light. One video concerning the battle for Kidal accumulated around 4.7 million views. Again, attribution requires care. Researchers describe the account as being operated by an individual based in Bamako; they do not provide evidence that it is officially managed by the Malian government. It is better understood as part of a wider pro-government information ecosystem in which the boundaries between state communications, supporters and co-ordinated propaganda can be difficult to establish. The Africa Center for Strategic Studies has previously identified the military regimes in Mali and Burkina Faso as important sources of disinformation campaigns in West Africa. Recurring narratives target France, the United Nations, ECOWAS, human-rights organisations and independent media, while presenting criticism of the authorities as part of a foreign conspiracy. Generative AI allows such narratives to be produced faster, more cheaply and in far more variations. Everyone is fighting over a different version of the same war What makes Mali particularly revealing is that multiple actors are using similar technology for very different objectives. FLA-linked networks need digital faces capable of humanising the Azawad cause and attacking Russia's presence. JNIM needs propaganda material and increasingly localised communications. The pro-government ecosystem seeks to portray Mali's armed forces as victorious and reinforce the junta's legitimacy. Russia possesses the broadest infrastructure, in which AI is merely one component of a larger system involving media outlets, websites, local partners, social-media profiles and technical amplification. The result is a war taking place simultaneously in two realities. In the first, soldiers and civilians are killed, towns change hands and the army, separatists and jihadists fight for territory. In the second, every side is trying to determine what the first reality will look like on a smartphone screen. Generative AI does not need to create a perfect deepfake to be effective. It merely needs to increase the number of competing versions of events until an ordinary viewer can no longer easily determine which one deserves to be trusted. That is why Mali matters. Why the world is run in an insane way. The notion that power is inherently good while liberalism is bad is utterly perverse. Narcissists, megalomaniacs, windbags, pathological liars, adventurers, and individuals with criminal tendencies all crave tyranny, oligarchic fascism, and one-man dictatorships. They harbour but a single dream: absolute, unassailable power and boundless privilege. Any consolidation of power—regardless of how it is marketed—inevitably leads to economic contraction, a halt in development, and a deterioration in the quality of life for the majority. Worse still, it intensifies military confrontation and fosters a readiness to engage in protracted conflicts. A state of peace—hitherto a paramount priority—gives way to a state of war, claiming victims from all walks of life. The rigid, linear mindset and behavior characteristic of those in power are manifestations of stupidity. Life is inherently contradictory; it thrives on equilibrium and balance and does not submit to commands—save for in appearance or through folly. This severely limits the efficacy of resolving problems via coercion, which rapidly devolves into entropy and systemic collapse. Within the corridors of power, rational individuals are sidelined; perceived as indecisive and wavering—aware as they are of life’s inherent contradictions and the fact that problems are often intractable or insoluble—they lack the appeal that breeds popularity. Instead, the spotlight falls on narcissists, megalomaniacs, arrogant windbags, pathological liars, and figures from the criminal underworld—individuals who transform the exercise of power into a mafia-like enterprise. They always display determination and convey the impression that problems are easily solvable—and that they possess both the knowledge and the ability to resolve them; this is precisely what appeals most to people and generates popularity. Yet, such public popularity is highly deceptive. It is profoundly artificial, hypocritical, and detached—a theatrical role-play designed to maintain the image and ratings of a public star, manifesting nothing but boundless narcissism. There is no intelligence in this, only madness. These are madmen who believe they can do whatever they please. The character of all such politicians—who have lost all sense of proportion—bears a resemblance to that of Hitler.

The GIO Festival Captures the Attention of Broadway World: International Spotlight on the Staged World Premiere of Umberto Giordano’s Marina SOURCE: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/gio-festival-captures-attention-broadway-world-staged-sardella-ph-d--pw1qe/ SOURCE: https://www.immediato.net/2026/08/20/il-gio-festival-conquista-broadway-world-riflettori-internazionali-sulla-prima-scenica-di-marina-di-umberto-giordano/ The prestigious American outlet has devoted an extensive feature to the production presented at the Teatro Giordano in Foggia. The opera, composed in 1888 and left without a true staging for almost 140 years, has returned to life within the festival directed by Gianna Fratta and Dino De Palma. The staged world premiere of Marina, a youthful work by Umberto Giordano, has brought Foggia onto the pages of the international press. Broadway World, a US publication specialising in the performing arts, has dedicated a substantial article to the production presented on 5 June at the Teatro Umberto Giordano as part of the GIO Festival. Luciano Magaldi Sardella, in a communication sent to several editorial offices, highlighted the international resonance of the event, noting that it has attracted attention even overseas. The title chosen by Broadway World is unequivocal: “Marina, Umberto Giordano’s Lost Opera, Makes World Stage Premiere in Foggia.” An opera left in the shadows for nearly 140 years Marina was composed in 1888 by Giordano, then barely in his twenties and still a student at the Naples Conservatoire. The opera was submitted to the second edition of the Sonzogno Competition in Milan, but did not win and remained essentially forgotten for decades, even as the composer from Foggia would later achieve acclaim with works such as Andrea Chénier and Fedora. According to the feature, the score received its first concert performance only at the beginning of 2026 at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan. The Foggia production, however, marked the opera’s true staged debut, in the theatre that bears Giordano’s own name. The staged premiere at the Teatro Giordano The production was presented on 5 June during the GIO Festival. Artistic direction was entrusted to Gianna Fratta and Dino De Palma, while the staging was directed by Giandomenico Vaccari. As reported by Broadway World, the production relocated the narrative to the period of the First World War, emphasising the dramatic and realistic character of the opera. Valeria Sepe performed in the role of Marina, while the Orchestra Sinfonica of the Conservatorio Umberto Giordano in Foggia was conducted by Matteo Dal Maso. The cast also included Samuele Simoncini as Giorgio Lascari, Elia Fabbian and Cüneyt Ünsal, and the Chorus of the Fondazione Teatro Petruzzelli, prepared by Marco Medved. Broadway World celebrates Foggia The American publication underscores the historical significance of the initiative and the bond between the composer and his native city. The symbolic value is considerable: in the theatre named after Giordano, Foggia has hosted for the first time the complete staged version of an opera that had remained outside the repertoire for more than a century. The feature also highlights the musical quality of the score, described as surprisingly mature for the composer’s age and already capable of anticipating elements that would later characterise Giordano’s subsequent works. A festival spanning Foggia, the Gargano and the Monti Dauni The GIO Festival—Giordano International Opera Festival—was promoted by the Chamber of Commerce of Foggia in partnership with the Municipality and the Province, with support from the Region of Apulia and Puglia Culture. The initiative involved not only the provincial capital but also the Gargano and the Monti Dauni, with a programme ranging across opera, jazz, cinema, dance, chamber music and scientific outreach. The festival concluded on 20 June with Andrea Chénier in Piazza Cavour, in a production originating at La Scala in Milan and brought to Foggia for the occasion. Gianna Fratta conducted the Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro Petruzzelli. Foggia’s image beyond Italy’s borders The prominence achieved by Marina also represents an important result for the region’s cultural profile. The festival’s narrative seeks to enhance Foggia’s cultural heritage through one of its most emblematic figures. The appearance of the production on the pages of Broadway World reinforces this international dimension, transforming the revival of a forgotten opera into an opportunity for cultural promotion for the entire Capitanata.

Artistic Director Francesco Gravino and his distinguished theatre company FOYER’97 TEATRO have officially landed on one of the most widely followed magazines in Hollywood and across California: HOLLYWOOD BEAT MAGAZINE! A rising and highly esteemed voice within the global film and theatre industry. My article, entitled: “Revolutionizing Theatre: Six Seats, One Actor in Italy” explores how Gravino’s radical concept is rewriting the rules of contemporary theatre, bringing Italian intimacy, daring experimentation, and artistic audacity straight into the heart of Hollywood’s cultural imagination. A. A theatre born inside a humble newsstand, now conquering Hollywood. B. One actor, six seats — an experience the world had never witnessed before. C. A project MADE IN SAN SEVERO / PUGLIA / ITALY, now expanding onto the global stage. This is not merely a milestone: it is the beginning of an entirely new trajectory. And today we can proclaim it with pride: FRANCESCO GRAVINO and FOYER’97 are officially entering the international spotlight of the performing arts world. Hollywood, prepare yourself: the TEATRO EDICOLA is on its way!

THE “LOS ANGELES JOURNAL” UNVEILS THE “TEATRO‑EDICOLA” OF FRANCESCO GRAVINO AND FOYER ’97 TEATRO IN SANSEVERO, PUGLIA, ITALY SOURCE: https://medium.com/@ingnucllms/the-los-angeles-journal-unveils-the-teatro-edicola-of-francesco-gravino-and-foyer-97-teatro-in-38b675bc6f00 A diminutive miracle born in San Severo captures the discerning gaze of Los Angeles’ cultural elite. The Los Angeles Journal — one of the West Coast’s most authoritative voices in the realm of television and performing arts — has devoted an extensive feature to the Teatro Edicola, the six‑seat, fifteen‑minute micro‑stage whose sheer intensity has quietly, yet irresistibly, travelled from Via Matteo Tondi to the international spotlight. The article traces the remarkable metamorphosis of a former news kiosk into an innovative model of urban theatre, a concept so striking that it has piqued the curiosity of Los Angeles itself, homeland of titans such as the Ahmanson and the Pantages. The American publication embraces the definition offered by the artistic director — San Severo‑born actor and director Francesco Gravino — who describes the Teatro Edicola as a radical embodiment of “proximity theatre”: a cultural gesture proving that bold ideas, rather than lavish budgets, are sufficient to regenerate spaces and rekindle communities. Through this project, Francesco Gravino and Foyer ’97 propel the creative spirit of Foggia onto the international stage, demonstrating that even the humblest and most time‑worn of kiosks can become the cradle of a new vision for contemporary performance. A source of pride for San Severo, for the Province of Foggia, for the whole of Apulia — and for all those who still believe that theatre possesses the power to astonish, to move, and to transform the very places in which we live.

Elon Musk cites the “Edicola Teatro” of Foyer '97 by Francesco Gravino of San Severo in his own encyclopaedia, Grokipedia SOURCE: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/elon-musk-cites-edicola-teatro-foyer-97-francesco-san-sardella-ph-d--jvudf/ The format devised by the San Severo-based theatre company Foyer ’97 — already described as “the smallest theatre in the world” — is now capturing the international spotlight in the field of artificial intelligence. A story that began with an abandoned news kiosk in the province of Foggia is now crossing every border. It is both a pleasure and an honour to help disseminate the brilliant idea of the artistic director of Teatro ’97, the distinguished actor and director from San Severo, Francesco Gravino, together with his remarkable theatre company, as they gain international visibility for this marvellous and innovative creation: a true “Teatro Edicola”. Source: https://grokipedia.com/page/Teatro_Edicola It takes only a few square metres, six chairs, and the passion of a theatre company to make history. The “Edicola Teatro” created by Francesco Gravino, artistic director of the historic San Severo‑based company Foyer ’97, has achieved a distinction that few Italian cultural projects can claim: its own dedicated entry within Grokipedia, the AI‑driven digital encyclopaedia launched by Elon Musk in November 2025 through his company xAI. Grokipedia has been presented as a direct alternative to Wikipedia, powered by the Grok artificial intelligence system, with content generated and updated automatically by the language model developed by xAI. The platform currently hosts more than 885,000 articles in its 0.1 version, and Musk has already announced future updates, hinting at rapid expansion thanks to the system’s automatic generation capabilities. The fact that the “Edicola Teatro” of San Severo, in the province of Foggia, now appears among the indexed entries is, in every respect, a recognition of the cultural and media impact that the project conceived by Francesco Gravino and his theatre company Foyer ’97 has managed to generate in such a short time. An abandoned kiosk, a record‑breaking theatre It has already been dubbed “the smallest theatre in the world” and, with only six seats, may well be aiming for a Guinness World Record. Since its launch just a few days ago, the unusual venue has attracted hundreds of curious visitors who have queued to attend the performances, scheduled every fifteen minutes, inside a former abandoned news kiosk in San Severo, in the province of Foggia. The initiative stems from the distinctive vision of the long‑established San Severo company Foyer ’97, led by Francesco Gravino, who wished to celebrate World Theatre Day with an unprecedented experiment that has already been picked up by numerous media outlets, including national ones. The idea, seemingly simple in its striking essentiality, in fact conceals a profound reflection on the nature of theatre‑making. “The idea of the smallest theatre in the world was born from a creative provocation: to bring theatre back to its most direct essence. Together with the rest of the company, we asked ourselves how far the space could be reduced without losing intensity, and the kiosk became the perfect symbol: a place that suddenly transforms into a stage. From a space of news to a space of emotion,” Gravino explained. The theatre company Foyer ’97 has been active since 1997 and is based in San Severo. Next year it will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary—an occasion approaching at the moment of greatest visibility in its history. The format: sixteen giants of literature in fifteen minutes With only six seats available at a time and performances running every fifteen minutes, the audience is quite literally immersed in the work. From 11:00 to 20:45, eleven actors take turns bringing to life the giants of literature: from Goldoni to Chekhov, via the wit of Gaber and the power of Euripides. Inside the tiny theatre carved out of the disused kiosk owned by Mr Pino Grau, there is no traditional separation between stage and audience; instead, an intimate encounter takes place in which spectators and actors become one. Admission is free, reflecting Gravino’s aim: to champion accessibility in theatre, a place that must once again welcome everyone. On the kiosk’s threshold, a QR code and a cryptic notice encapsulate the spirit of the project: “Warning. This QR Code turns passers‑by into actors. Scan only if you are ready.” From the crisis of print media to cultural rebirth The project also carries a reflection on urban transformation and the decline of traditional retail. The kiosk had been abandoned for around six years and has now been transformed into an intimate and surprising performance space in which less than a metre separates actors and audience. At a time when kiosks in town centres are increasingly converted into drink stands, flower stalls, or souvenir shops, the Edicola Teatro comes closer to the original spirit of knowledge with which they were conceived—as places for the sale of newspapers and books. A symbolic short circuit of remarkable eloquence: a bastion of written culture becoming a bastion of live culture. The idea draws inspiration from Edicola Fiore, the cult programme by Fiorello, who was the first to bring performance into a Roman news kiosk. Gravino and his team have also embraced the call of Willem Dafoe, the renowned actor and current director of the Theatre section of the Venice Biennale, on the importance of theatre as a force for cohesion among peoples. The Grokipedia entry: a leap to global scale The project’s inclusion in Grokipedia represents more than a simple media acknowledgement. Grokipedia was launched in October 2025 as an AI‑generated encyclopaedia managed by xAI, the artificial intelligence research company founded by Musk himself. The fact that Grok’s knowledge engine deemed the “Edicola Teatro” worthy of an autonomous encyclopaedic entry—on a par with established cultural institutions—confirms the international resonance of an idea born in a side street of a southern Italian town. The aim is now to export the format beyond the borders of Apulia: with Grokipedia’s recognition, that prospect appears more tangible than ever. Praise from local institutions “We extend our warmest congratulations to Franco Gravino and to all the actors and artists for this wonderful initiative,” declared Mayor Lidya Colangelo and Deputy Mayor for Culture Anna Paola Giuliani. The municipal administration has announced its intention to welcome the company to Palazzo Celestini to celebrate the achievement together. The audience’s reaction has perhaps been the most beautiful aspect. Many emerged with glistening eyes or a suspended smile, as though they had experienced something secret. This is the kind of theatre that Francesco Gravino and Foyer ’97 have chosen to pursue: not the theatre that waits for its audience on velvet seats, but the theatre that goes out to find them in the street, surprises them, transforms them. And now, even an encyclopaedia powered by artificial intelligence has, at last, taken note.

SanGiovanniRotondoFree.it — Herdonia, the “Pompeii of Apulia”, Captivates America: Popular Archaeology Shines a Spotlight on the Tavoliere’s Hidden Treasure SOURCE: https://sangiovannirotondofree.it/2026/02/28/herdonia-la-pompei-di-puglia-conquista-lamerica-riflettori-di-popular-archaeology-sul-tesoro-nascosto-del-tavoliere/ In the golden heart of the Tavoliere delle Puglie, where the wheat still ripples beneath the very sky that once witnessed the passage of Hannibal’s armies and Trajan’s legions, Herdonia at last emerges onto the international stage: the ancient city that scholars, with equal admiration and regret, have long described as “the Pompeii of Puglia”. Published in Popular Archaeology, the article by Dr Luciano Magaldi Sardella retraces, with both passion and scholarly rigour, the entire epic of this extraordinary site: from its Daunian origins in the Iron Age, marked by its celebrated anthropomorphic stelae and the earliest textile embroideries known in Italy, through the tragedy of the Punic Wars – two battles of Herdonia in the aftermath of Cannae – the Roman refoundation along the Via Traiana, and finally the hunting retreat of Frederick II of Swabia of the Hohenstaufen dynasty. Only 20 per cent of its 20–24 hectares has been brought to light over sixty years of Belgian (Joseph Mertens, 1962–1992) and Italo‑Belgian excavations (University of Bari, Giuliano Volpe, 1993–2000). The remaining 80 per cent, preserved intact beneath the thin Puglian mantle, constitutes a living archive of history that could occupy archaeologists for the next century. After twenty‑two years of enforced silence due to a protracted legal dispute, the year 2022 marked a decisive turning point: the State acquired the entire area, allocating more than €2.7 million for restoration, enhancement, and the creation of the Archaeological Park of Herdonia. The HerMA Museum, inaugurated in 2017 just a short distance from the site, already welcomes thousands of visitors with its Daunian and Roman masterpieces, while the Polytechnic University of Bari has produced the first complete 3D model of the ruins. “Herdonia is not merely a site of the past; it is a place capable of narrating the whole of Italy, from prehistory to the Middle Ages, without being overlaid by a modern city,” writes Magaldi Sardella. “It now finally possesses the conditions to become one of the great archaeological parks of our country.” The field lies open. Puglia has rediscovered its Pompeii. It is now for the world to uncover it.
