Magnus Barsøe criticized that the 31-year-old Nkumba Ludovic Tshiembe had supposedly received one year in prison for killing a family man. He wrote that Tshiembe had previously been convicted of rape and attempted murder, and called the sentence, as well as a one-year nightlife ban, insufficient. Barsøe called for minimum sentences inspired by the USA, although he did not advocate for the American legal system. He believed that greater alignment between the court’s sentences and the public’s wishes was necessary to maintain trust in the rule of law, and that the current gap harmed democracy and was deeply unfair to the victims of crime. #retsstat #strafferet #retfærdighed (translated)
