Asian media are acting as a driving force: the continuous broadcasting of TV programs and web formats dedicated to the Dolomites has transformed the Alto Adige region into a cult destination. Kim HyunJin, a tourism expert residing in Europe, explained to the newspaper that the South Korean audience, finding classic destinations like Rome, Venice, or Milan saturated, is looking for new destinations. #Dolomiti #TurismoAsiatico #Overtourism (translated)

Sabrina F. wrote that defending fundamental rights should not be defined as racism and distinguished her critique of a model of society from hostility towards a religion. She argued that in that model, the law would be subordinate to a sacred text, that changing faith or loving a person of the same sex could lead to severe penalties, and that in 2026, in ten states, the death penalty could be at risk for the latter reason. She also cited marriages with girls aged 9 and restrictions imposed on women, including beatings by moral police for the veil. According to Sabrina F., the separation between religion and law and equality before the law were principles enshrined in the Constitution. She criticized what she described as a selective silence on the rights of LGBTQ+ people and women: she wrote that in half of the planet, rainbow flags could lead to life imprisonment or the death penalty and recalled the case of a twenty-year-old beaten by the moral police for the veil. She added that in too many countries opening a church could lead to prison and argued that accepting laws applied differently in the same society was neither inclusion nor openness.

An Abandoned Italian Newsstand Just Became the World’s Smallest Theatre. Fifteen minutes. One actor. No stage. Luciano Magaldi Sardella

Then there are more traditional systems: microphones and microcameras placed in private spaces, like in the case of Omar Radi, a journalist persecuted for years for his articles on corruption, spied on through a tiny hidden microphone in a chandelier in his home: “As soon as I speak in public, as soon as I write a post on Facebook or Instagram, they come alive and start offending me. Maddalena Loy 1d

Maddalena Loy had recalled a phrase attributed to Goebbels about the repetition of lies and had defined the accusation from the opposition that the Meloni government had cut funding for public health as false. Loy had contested the data from the Gimbe Foundation, led by Nino Cartabellotta, on the 18.8 billion euros of “invisible cuts.” According to her reconstruction, the figure did not indicate resources taken away from hospitals but the difference compared to what would have been allocated had the ratio between the national health fund and GDP of 2022 remained unchanged. She argued that Gimbe’s headline had led publications like Repubblica to present the figure as an actual loss and called that interpretation a political attack on the government. In comparing allocations, Loy pointed out an increase of 8.2 billion euros between 2011 and 2019, under the Monti, Letta, Renzi, Gentiloni, and Conte governments; of 11.6 billion euros between 2019 and 2022, during the Conte government; and of 17.5 billion euros between 2022 and 2026, with the Meloni government, which would raise the fund from 125.4 to 142.9 billion euros. She described the latter as the largest accounting increase in peacetime. Loy also mentioned monthly increases of around 400 euros for doctors, peaking at 600 euros, a plan to hire 1,000 doctors and 6,300 nurses, coverage of over 2,000 new services, and a flat tax of 15% on overtime for doctors and nurses. She finally contested the statements of Senator Castellone on L’Aria che tira regarding cuts to healthcare. #SanitàPubblica #GovernoMeloni #FakeNews (translated)

Rula Jebreal 1d

Rula Jebreal wrote that, in her opinion, there was an attempt underway to dismantle the legacies of the Allied victory over Nazi fascism, starting with international criminal justice, which was born in Nuremberg and is today represented by the International Criminal Court. She called the comment attributed to Israel regarding the Nobel to Navi Pillay, stating that "Joseph Goebbels is applauding from hell," a "grotesque reversal of history." Jebreal argued that the applause should rather go to those who, in her opinion, were trying to dismantle international justice and ensure impunity for war criminals. According to Jebreal, the delegitimization of the courts was the first step towards replacing the law with the will of those in power, with democracy as the ultimate target. She also criticized the announcement of a live-streamed execution by firing squad of the perpetrator of the Fort Hood massacre, describing it as a transformation of punishment into spectacle and the state into a stage of vengeance. She concluded that, in addition to international justice, the principles of national rule of law were also under attack. #GiustiziaInternazionale #DirittiUmani #Democrazia (translated)

"We have reached barbarism, animality: we shoot a human being as if it were a public spectacle. We have gone back ninety years, to the last time a man was hanged in public in the United States. It is truly shameful." With these words, Vincenzo De Luca, in his usual weekly Facebook live address, comments on the decision announced by U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, whom he referred to as "the slicked-back one." What is happening in the United States with the current ruling group at the helm of the country is pushing the world towards levels of barbarism and loss of fundamental human values that leave us truly shocked." The mayor of Salerno describes the announcement as a return to practices that the United States had abandoned for almost a century, and harshly criticizes the Trump administration: "What is happening in the United States with the current ruling group at the helm of the country is pushing the world towards levels of barbarism and loss of fundamental human values that leave us truly shocked." We will have a political season that will record the further fragmentation of the political landscape of our country. Every election campaign eve sees the birth of new lists, new groupings, all that series of nonsense and hypocrisies that serve simply one purpose: to guarantee a candidacy to as many people as possible – he continues – I happened to particularly observe "Civic Project." I called it "Civic Opportunism": it is a way to try to create spaces for candidacy. That’s all." De Luca then comments on the eve of the Italian electoral season, targeting the political formation promoted by Alessandro Onorato, which continues to gather support even in Campania, including from regional councilors so far close to the former president of the Campania Region: "We will have a political season that will record the further fragmentation of the political landscape of our country. I have been repeating for decades that there is a condition of total anomaly in Italy. When you need to make political choices on major issues (healthcare, transportation, taxation, justice, foreign policy), you can have two different positions, three, four, five hypotheses for solving problems or lines on which to position yourself to tackle the issues. But you can’t have twenty lines of economic policy, twenty healthcare policies, twenty transportation policies." They pretend to contribute to the governance of the country, but in reality, they are great charades and initiatives of opportunism that simply serve to open spaces for the candidacies of a few characters in search of an author." #VincenzoDeLuca #Elezioni #PoliticaUSA (translated)
