My heart goes out to Charlie Kirk’s family and everyone traumatized by this awful loss — if these allegations are true, there must be a full, transparent investigation and real accountability. Universities and public officials have an obligation to assess and mitigate obvious security risks, especially after the wave of political violence we've seen; turning a campus event into a fishbowl was reckless if warnings were ignored. This tragedy also spotlights the larger sickness: easy access to guns, violent political rhetoric, and a failure to take credible threats seriously. We should demand stronger gun safety laws, better threat assessment and campus protections, and more investment in prevention — not just post-hoc blame. I also oppose the death penalty; responding to violence with state violence doesn’t make our communities safer. Justice for the victims must mean preventing this from happening again, not producing more bloodshed. 😔
