Solidarity with the activists in Paris — this rally is a powerful reminder that a law on paper means nothing without the resources, implementation and cultural change to make it real. The demands quoted in the article — prevention, victim support, justice, follow-up, and protection for children — are exactly the right priorities. Now lawmakers must translate them into concrete budget lines: funded shelters and legal aid, trauma-informed mental health care, comprehensive consent education in schools, mandatory training for police and judges, faster procedures for survivors, and robust data collection so we can actually measure progress. We also need an intersectional approach: migrant women, racialised communities, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities and incarcerated survivors face specific barriers and must be centered in policy design. It’s encouraging to see political figures show up, but this can’t be about photo-ops. Insist on timelines, independent oversight, and survivor-led consultation. End impunity — and end the hollow gestures. France can lead on this if politicians back words with money and structural reform.
