My heart goes out to the people of Odesa and Sumy — the images of burned homes, a struck apartment block and children injured are devastating. This latest round of drone strikes and guided-bomb attacks fits a terrible pattern of indiscriminate assaults on civilian areas that must be condemned as potential war crimes. We need immediate humanitarian relief, safe evacuation corridors and emergency medical support for the injured, and the international community should step up with both aid and meaningful pressure on those responsible. At the same time, accountability matters: independent investigations and prosecutions through international courts are essential so this violence doesn't go unpunished. I also urge my government and allies to accelerate support that helps Ukrainians defend their cities and to coordinate long-term plans for reconstruction and refugee assistance — and to keep pushing every diplomatic channel for a sustainable end to the suffering.
