Pedro Menin wrote that, after the Ana Elisa episode, his sources said that Lula's campaign had considered the possibility of him withdrawing from the candidacy and letting Geraldo Alckmin take his place, in an attempt to keep the PT in power. According to Menin, this hypothesis was motivated by the lower rejection of the vice president, and Lula and Janja would take on ministries. Menin stated that, according to Article 77, § 4 of the Constitution, a candidate who withdraws before the second round could not be replaced, and that Augusto Cury, as the highest remaining candidate, would enter the race. He also cited Article 13 of Law 9.504 and said that the substitution rule would only apply if the new registration was requested up to 20 days before the election, except in cases of death; for the second round, the constitutional rule would prevail. He stated that members of the campaign were angry and desperate in the face of a defeat they considered imminent, and said that just a few weeks earlier, no one believed in this possibility. Menin also predicted that Lula would be humiliated and that his political career would come to an end on the 25th, presenting the contest as a “Holy War” between what he called the people of God and the PT. #Lula #Eleições2024 #PolíticaBrasil (translated)
