The author wrote that Victor Spaggiari had been a familiar sight to Galway residents, sitting on the same bench each day, and that he left an estate worth €1.29 million when he died. The author said they had traced Spaggiari’s family in Italy to find out why. https://t.co/847qQVepDf #Galway #Homelessness #HumanStories #IE #IT

The author said recommendations to reduce deaths among homeless people and support bereaved families had still not been acted on years later. They wrote that at least 46 people died while homeless in Dublin last year and urged the government to protect people at risk, describing the situation as unacceptable. https://t.co/S0Tlu8b0sN #homelessness #Dublin #governmentaction #IE

The author argued that Spain should protect dignity in old age, citing the case of 87-year-old Maricarmen in Madrid as a reason Europe needed a better balance between social responsibility and private property. They wrote that no elderly person should face homelessness or be forced into a care home, but the post’s final sentence ended before giving a reason. https://t.co/DkPtAgZOzO #DignidadEnLaVejez #ResponsabilidadSocial #DerechosHumanos #ES #EU

The author said homelessness was rising because of what they described as poor FF/FG housing policy, citing a shortage of social homes, cuts to prevention schemes and delays to action plans. They called for a different approach, referring to SF’s 12-point plan to end long-term homelessness by 2030. https://t.co/tgwiXNNi05 #Homelessness #HousingPolicy #SocialHousing #IE

It's a political choice to NOT protect people, to allow profiteering by energy companies, to increase homelessness. Government has record surplus, but it's not being invested in things like a State Construction Company, free public transport, re-nationalising our energy sector. https://t.co/k6DJM6PDrQ #PoliticalChoice #EnergyProfit #PublicInvestment #Nospecificcountrycodesarementionedinthetweet.

There is an alternative long term homelessness can be ended In May @sinnfeinireland published a 12 point plan Shift the focus to prevention & exits Increase social & affordable supply Reduce the numbers in emergency year on year It can be done, if there is political will... https://t.co/qp3W8yxx7P #Homelessness #SocialJustice #PreventiveMeasures #IE

It's pathetic watching the government assure their European "partners" that Ireland will join the new arms race. We have more than 17,500 people homeless, a million people on hospital waiting lists, but the government wants to triple arms spending. https://t.co/e17gkGtWN9 #Ireland #ArmsRace #Homelessness #IE #EU

The Politics of Pity For a decade, the West has argued whether empathy should be its highest value. Some praise it as a superpower; others call it harmful. Gad Saad’s “Suicidal Empathy” topped the New York Times list. Elon Musk called empathy a weakness; John C. Reilly called it a superpower. Ideas should be judged by consequences. Compassion-justified policies have coincided with worse addiction and homelessness, rising crime, mass migration, social fragmentation, higher living costs, and controversial medical interventions for gender-dysphoric minors. When these fail, advocates often claim it was not implemented “strongly enough.” ## An Inversion of Truth A quote often attributed to Hannah Arendt claims “the death of human empathy” precedes barbarism, but no source supports it, and her writings argued almost the opposite. Arendt contrasted the American Revolution’s institutions and law with the French revolutionaries’ “politics of pity.” Pity is not compassion: it ranks “fortunate” and “unfortunate,” grants the pitier moral authority, and overrides rights. Arendt argued this enabled Robespierre’s Terror. ## The Trojan Horse Empathy can become projection—imposing your values as if they were others’ needs. Adam Smith warned about the “man of system.” Nietzsche described societies so “soft and tender” they side with those who harm them. Orwell noted equality preaching alongside elite privilege. Rob Henderson calls these “luxury beliefs.” I call it suicidal narcissism: acquiring moral status by appearing compassionate while policies erode the foundations others rely on. The reward is immediate; the damage comes later.

🇬🇧: Weaving social ties for a renewed, integrated and coherent vision of mental health, homelessness and addiction - https://www.pratiquesensante.com/en/blog/practices-15/tisser-le-lien-social-pour-une-vision-renouvelee-integree-et-coherente-en-matiere-de-sante-mentale-itinerance-et-dependance-6107 #️⃣ #PratiquesEnSante #LienSocial #SantéMentale #RéductionDesMéfaits #Itinérance #DéterminantsSociaux #LogementDabord #PréventionStructurelle
