The Irish presidency has come up with a proposal that would be financially more beneficial for us (compared to the European Commission's proposal, which assumes that countries pay 30% of their ETS revenues immediately - editor's note), but we are still not at the point where we would like to be regarding the ETS as a resource – conveyed Deputy Minister for European Affairs Ignacy Niemczycki to RMF FM journalist. #budżetUE #Polska #ETS (translated)

Szymon Janus 4d

Szymon Janus wrote that InPost pays a corporate income tax (CIT) of about 7% of its revenue in Poland, while DHL — in which the German government holds an 18% stake — according to him pays 130,000 PLN, or 0.005%, and DPD — entirely owned by the French government — pays 13.5 million PLN, or 0.27%. Janus criticized the government's plan to raise the CIT for Polish companies, accusing the authorities of not implementing measures to counteract the outflow of money from Poland at the same time. He noted that some foreign corporations do pay taxes in Poland, mentioning Lidl and Biedronka, which — as he stated — contribute nearly 1.5 billion PLN annually. He added that, in his opinion, InPost does not use tools to transfer funds from other countries to Poland, which he considered somewhat regrettable. #CIT #podatki #gospodarka (translated)

Marcelina Zawisza from the Together Party wrote that the New Left opposed discussing the agreement to increase the hourly minimum wage by 90 groszy, despite rising costs of electricity, gas, water, and rent. She also pointed out that salaries in the public sector were supposed to increase by 3 percent, while inflation was at 4 percent, which — as she assessed — could mean a real decrease in wages next year. Zawisza added that voters from different parties had asked her about further increases in fees this year, while the minimum wage had increased, as she wrote, only by 90 groszy. She claimed that public officials earning 10 thousand zł net felt the rise in costs less than other citizens. She accused the New Left, the Civic Coalition, PSL, and Poland 2050 of not wanting this topic to be discussed. #Polska #Gospodarka #Wybory (translated)

S. Szynkowski vel Sęk wrote that Donald Tusk had at his disposal a government center in Łańsk with a villa, swimming pool, saunas, a kayak rental, and stables, as well as the Warsaw residence Parkowa. He noted that government and presidential centers operate in most countries and serve the administration, hosting foreign guests, and organizing events. He added that some facilities are partially made available for commercial use, mentioning the lower Presidential Castle in Wisła and the facilities in Łańsk. He claimed that countries without such centers pay high sums for the rental of representative facilities. Zbigniew Bogucki criticized Prime Minister Donald Tusk, accusing him of being out of touch with the problems of Poles. He wrote that while drivers were paying — as he put it — the highest fuel bills in history, Tusk was smiling, drinking coffee, and circling around the Belvedere fence, staging a political spectacle. Bogucki accused the prime minister of shifting blame onto the president, lying, and avoiding responsibility for high fuel prices. He claimed this served to cover up the budget deficit. He called on Tusk to fulfill the promise regarding gasoline priced at 5.19 PLN per liter. #Polska #drożyzna #DonaldTusk (translated)

Pan Cezary Krysztopa #BabiesLivesMatter 1w

Mr. Cezary Krysztopa assessed that Karol Nawrocki stepped back to encourage Donald Tusk to show how he intends to lower fuel prices. He claimed that Tusk did not need the president's signature to reduce VAT and excise tax, and that a drop in prices could also be achieved by limiting Orlen's margins. Krysztopa questioned the connection between the “excess profits” law and fuel prices and called it unconstitutional. He warned that companies could pass its costs onto customers. Referring to explanations that high fuel prices were a result of Trump's war with Iran, he admitted that the conflict had raised wholesale oil prices but pointed out that they were higher when Tusk spoke of gasoline at 5.19 PLN per liter. According to Krysztopa, wholesale prices were currently lower. The author accused Tusk of avoiding information about the budget's state and attributed the catastrophe of public finances to him. He cited the downgrade by Moody’s, which he described as the first in over twenty years, and claimed that the decline in tax revenues was due to tolerance of VAT fraud and abuse in the fuel market. Krysztopa predicted that the announced price reduction would amount to about one zloty, after which prices would rise again, and later there would be a lack of funds for further actions. He also criticized Tusk's supporters for their joy over PiS's political defeat, using vulgar terms towards them, and expressed hope for a way out of the current situation. #Polska #paliwo #Tusk (translated)

It's hard to endure the situation where Poles are paying such a high price for Donald Tusk's political mistakes. President Karol Nawrocki decided to sign the law on extraordinary profits of fuel companies despite a number of constitutional doubts. He referred this law subsequently to the Constitutional Tribunal. The President clearly emphasized yesterday that the responsibility for high fuel prices, for the very bad economic situation in Poland, lies with the government, and it cannot be made to believe that any responsibility in this regard lies with the President. Donald Tusk has been in power since December 13, 2023, and the message that the President delivered yesterday was not about announcing the signing of the law – it focused on two main issues: primarily, to draw the attention of Poles to the dramatic situation of Poland's public finances, and secondly – to also point out that Polish security cannot be played with in the name of particular political interests. The rulers could have reduced high fuel prices with simple decisions. (…) In recent weeks, the Prime Minister preferred to put Poles in the role of hostages. He reached into the pockets of Poles in the name of party interests. The President clearly stated: the deterioration of the situation of public finances cannot be allowed. President Nawrocki is a responsible head of state. He looks at the interests of Polish women and men, not the party interests of one or another environment. He stood above this dispute and clearly said: "If Poles can pay less for fuel, then please – I will sign this law and refer it subsequently to the Constitutional Tribunal." We expect the government that the President's project, guaranteeing higher fuel price reductions, will also be on the agenda of the Sejm's work. Poles cannot be hostages to the disastrous financial decisions of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. For Donald Tusk, only party interest matters, for the President – the interest of Poles. That is the difference. #Polska #DonaldTusk #CenyPaliw (translated)

We have a government today that deceives and blackmails Poles, and its entire narrative around this law has been a lie from the beginning. Donald Tusk's cabinet has all the tools to lower fuel prices – it could have done this yesterday, a week, or a month ago. The government will not lower prices based on the law signed by the President from day to day. It comes into effect on November 1st, and the first payments from the new levy will only enter the budget by November 25th. For fuel to become cheaper immediately, the government simply needs to lower taxes. The President made a very responsible decision by signing this regulation and sending it to the Tribunal for subsequent control. Otherwise, citizens would continue to bear the costs of the government's previous deceptions. When the Minister of Finance wants to introduce tax privileges for same-sex couples, a simple tax interpretation suffices – suddenly the law becomes unnecessary, even though it contradicts Article 18 of the Constitution. Since it was possible to act with one administrative decision in that matter, why weren't taxes lowered to relieve Poles paying for the high prices at gas stations, which directly drives inflation? The government has repeatedly shown that it can act without the President's approval. A politician must be responsible, especially when holding the most important position in the state. A country is not governed with a baseball bat – a country is governed with responsibility. And it is from this responsibility that every decision of the President arises. The slogan "Poland first, Poles first" is not an empty statement. It is a concrete task for this presidency. Donald Tusk came to power on an election lie, claiming that with one decision from the Prime Minister, fuel could cost 5.19 PLN. Today he has become a hostage to his own promise. Many Poles believed him, so this promise should be fulfilled – regardless of whether he himself believed in it then or not. This is not the first time he has deceived Poles. Full responsibility for fuel prices rests with the government, for it is the government that has the tools to influence their height. Today, after the law was signed by the President, there are no more excuses or claims that the head of state is blocking anything. The President and the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland will not participate in the political theater of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The President consistently implements his strategy: he signs what serves the citizens and blocks poor solutions. We will not allow attention to be diverted from the key problems of Poles: fuel prices, energy, and the cost of living. Since the first day of his term, the President has been advocating for the establishment of American military bases in Poland. This is a strategic foundation of our security, and no excuses from the government will be accepted in this matter. The law clearly states that the President's opinion must be taken into account when appointing the leadership of the SOP. We are open to dialogue, but key decisions regarding the security of the most important people in the country must be worked out together with the President. #Polska #rząd #paliwo (translated)
