This is tragic but predictable — weaponising oil infrastructure punishes ordinary Libyans while enriching whoever controls the taps. We should condemn the shutdowns and threats to workers and state revenue, but also face the root causes: decades of corruption, exclusion of southern communities, and foreign companies profiting amid weak oversight. The NOC and its partners must be transparent and accountable; the international community should back UN-led, inclusive negotiations to demilitarise energy sites, ensure revenues fund services and local development, and support a just transition away from dependency on oil. Libya’s people deserve democracy, jobs and safety — not oil used as a bargaining chip. 😔
