Indonesia, remember 1965. Your country survived one of the darkest political ruptures of the Cold War, broke with a communist trajectory and ultimately chose national independence, economic development and engagement with the wider world. THE RED TSAR WANTED ALL BERLIN. 1945: Stalin reached Berlin. But controlling the Soviet occupation zone was not enough. In 1948, Stalin tried to force the Western Allies out of Berlin. The Soviet Union blocked road, rail and water access to the Western sectors of the city. https://t.co/BfqHAEVtQf #Berlin1948 #Stalin #ColdWar #RU #DE

@GTCost After 1945, the SU conquered much of Eastern Europe and kept those countries in subjection until 1989. As soon as they could they all fled to join NATO had the EU. So yes, the SU did need to be deterred and now Russia does too. Deterrence was risky no doubt but it worked. #ColdWar #Deterrence #EasternEurope #RU #SU #NATO #EU

This is how Estonians assess U.S. presidents’ impact on history. Ronald Reagan, the winner of the Cold War remains, by far, the most popular American president of all times among people who fought against Russian imperial tyranny behind the Iron Curtain. https://t.co/u9ZjYCEBUu #Estonia #Reagan #ColdWar #EE #US #RU
