W tłumieniu Powstania Warszawskiego wzięły udział niemieckie formacje policyjne złożone z Ukraińców podległe Orpo i Sipo. Dwie kompanie liczące ok. 300 osób. We wrześniu dołączyły do nich dwa bataliony policyjne SS (II i III z 34 Pułku) i Ukraiński Legion Samobrony. Podczas całego Powstania w formacjach policyjnych znalazło się ok. 1 500 Ukraińców. W szeregach Wehrmachtu etatowo służyli tzw. hiwisi (Hilfwillige) byli to przede wszystkim byli żołnierze Armii Czerwonej, którzy dostali się do niemieckiej niewoli, a następnie na ochotnika zgłosili się do służby w Wehrmachcie. Ale drugą liczebnie po Rosjanach grupą narodowościową w tych oddziałach byli Ukraińcy. Ale nikt do tej pory nie badał : ilu ich było i czy służyli wtedy w Warszawie. Tak samo nikt nie badał ilu Ukraińców służyło w Einsatzkommando SS-Hauptsturmführera Alfreda Spilkera.
