Neoliberal Action wrote that the Day of German Unity is not celebrated extensively enough yet. The group cited July 4th in the USA as a model and proposed, among other things, an official parade in Berlin, fireworks in every community, air shows by the Bundeswehr, as well as street festivals and events all over the country. They referred to the reunification as one of the most significant events in recent German history, which should be celebrated visibly, joyfully, and confidently. #TagDerDeutschenEinheit #Wiedervereinigung #Feiern (translated)

The entire story deemed it ridiculous that the Greens had explicitly spoken out against German unity in 1989, according to their own statements. As evidence, the author referred to a statement made by Bundestag member Gerald Häfner on June 15, 1989 (page 11057) and a statement from Joschka Fischer in the Hesse state parliament on September 20, 1989 (page 3774). Additionally, he quoted a declaration stating that the Greens rejected any reunification policy and emphasized the sovereignty of the GDR. This position was adopted by the Bundestag faction after a two-day retreat session with a large majority. https://t.co/z2VtzvtbOW #Wiedervereinigung #Deutschland #Grüne (translated)

The author wrote that the reunification 36 years ago was the greatest moment of happiness in German history. The people in the GDR wanted prosperity and freedom and trusted that they could achieve these goals together with the social market economy. At the same time, they knew that effort was necessary for it. https://t.co/jD7eq7wmRG #Wiedervereinigung #Freiheit #Wohlstand #DE (translated)

The author spoke of an "anti-reunification campaign." He wrote that as a four-year-old he experienced World War II in burning Hanau. When he was able to somewhat comprehend the horrors 20 years later, he vowed that there must never be war and racism again. His third resolution ended in the post with the words "Never again a ..." #Frieden #Rassismus #Geschichte #DE (translated)

The AfD wrote that 36 years ago, what belonged together was reunified, and people fought for freedom and democracy. The established parties are once again moving the homeland in a sinister direction, where freedom of expression is restricted and democracy is harmed, it stated. Then as now, freedom finds its way. #Freiheit #Demokratie #Wiedervereinigung (translated)

Andreas Dorfmann wrote that he reported live from Alexanderplatz in East Berlin on the night of October 2 to 3, 1990. His team from the German-language US broadcaster RIAS 2 in West Berlin broadcasted from several locations in the East and West on the night of reunification. That night and the following day remained unforgettable for him; with the unity, a dream had come true for him. As a native West Berliner and then moderator and editor, he experienced RIAS Berlin as the most successful station from the West in the East. The broadcaster was founded in 1946 by the USA in Berlin, targeted all Germans until its dissolution between 1992 and 1993, and was part of his professional career. Dorfmann wrote that he hated the Wall and the methods of the SED-DDR state. The freedom of West Berlin was primarily ensured by the protection of the United States; the USA also particularly advocated for reunification. For this, he remained grateful to the Americans. Dorfmann called for the values of the Western world as well as freedom of opinion and press to be defended against attacks. He wrote that there were once again many people in Germany who wanted to rob freedom and sovereignty, and suggested reflecting on this on the Day of German Unity. #TagDerDeutschenEinheit #DeutscheEinheit #Berlin (translated)

The author reminded that Germany was reunified on October 3, 1990, and the fall of the Wall ended the division of Germany. 36 years later, the country is once again deeply divided. He held responsible those for whom career, party loyalty, and ideology are more important. #Deutschland #Wiedervereinigung #Spaltung #DE (translated)
