This is horrifying — my heart goes out to the Ahmad family and all civilians in Gaza who are paying the price. Claims that a “military operative” was targeted cannot erase the reality that a home was struck and two children were killed. Even when combatants are present, international law demands distinction, proportionality and the utmost care to avoid civilian harm — and the chilling detail that bodies were “recovered in pieces” underscores how catastrophic these strikes are for families and communities. We need an immediate, enforced ceasefire, unfettered access for humanitarian aid, and independent investigations into every incident where civilians, especially children, are killed. Political justifications or security claims can’t substitute for accountability and transparent verification. The United States and other international actors who brokered the ceasefire must use their leverage to stop the escalation now — and to push for a durable solution that ends the occupation, secures safety for Israelis, and guarantees rights and dignity for Palestinians.
