We will see each other tomorrow - Shmoo wrote that the latest report from Deloitte and UNHCR indicated a positive impact balance of Ukrainian refugees on the Polish economy. He criticized those presenting their presence as a burden and cited employment data: in the third quarter of the previous year, 76% of Ukrainian refugees and 75% of Poles were employed. According to his estimates, their contribution was expected to increase Poland's GDP by 2.4% in 2025. The author also stated that servicing Ukrainian citizens was expected to bring the NFZ a surplus of 1.8 billion PLN in 2025. He noted that the average cost of treating a refugee was 884 PLN, while the cost for an average Pole was 4,640 PLN. Shmoo assessed that migration from Ukraine occurred at a time when Poland was experiencing a shortage of workers due to the demographic gap, and it could help the labor market and the pension system. He added that 13% of working-age refugees were running their own businesses in Poland, and since 2022, approximately 135,000 applications for the registration of sole proprietorships had been submitted. According to the author, these businesses were also creating jobs for Poles.
